Umuguma/ World Bank Residents Cry Out Over Contractor Abandonment of Road

… Urge Uzodinma to Ask Contractor to Return to Work, to Save Them from Hellish Experience of Last Rainy Season

Seriously perturbed residents and plyers of the ever busy World Bank/ Umuguma Road, Owerri, have cried out to the Imo State Governor Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma, urging  him to use his powers to compel the contractor handling the World Bank/ Umuguma road construction to complete the project.

The residents who spoke to Nigeria Media Hub recently, maintained that the call on the governor to wade into the issue of  abandonment of the project by the contractor, became urgent in view of the imminence of  another rainy season and subsequent unprecedented hardship and suffering they would face on the road when it starts.

They opined that road construction is usually a  dry season project, which meant that the contractor handling the road is supposed to be very much on ground now, working to deliver the road ahead of the rainy season, but lamented that what they are witnessing is the opposite of that ideal situation.

Continuing further, they disclosed that an  indepth investigation they carried out recently revealed that, it is the contractor handling the project said to be from Okigwe Zone of the state, that is responsible for the unfortunate situation, having been fully paid by   the Distinguished Senator Uzodinma administration.

They disclosed that it was that shocking discovery that propelled them into speaking out and calling on Gov Uzodinma to intervene and use his executive powers and authority to ensure that not only did the contractor quickly mobilizes back to site, but also complete the road, before the 2024  rainy season sets in fully.

They noted that, if the governor didn’t act quickly, or failed to order the erring contractor to return to work immediately, it would mean condemning residents of the area to a fate worse than that of  refugees, because what they would suffer this year on the road, would be far worse than what refugees experience in refuge camps.

They, however, expressed the hope and confidence that the governor would never allow them to be subjected to the type of untold hardship, suffering and pain they were subjected to last year, this 2024, even as they hinted that their strong belief in him stemmed from his track record of being a listening and proactive leader, who’s always ready to assuage the yearning and aspirations of his subjects.
